TEGUCIGALPA – In 2014, USDA-TechnoServe began funding bean producer organizations –beneficiaries of the MAS project (Sustainable Agricultural Improvement)– with funds from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The investment was executed by TechnoServe and will support the first and second bean planting season: approximately 1,500 pounds of seed.

In March more than 25 small producer organizations will benefit from seed funding that will increase the productivity of bean production. The total amount of funding amounts to $54,546.

In order to increase the program sustainability, the fund will be administered by the MAS project with experience in fund management and will offer financing to small producers. All producers will have access to released improved bean varieties such as Amadeus, Deorho and Carrizalito to ensure profitability.

The departments of influence for this funding are Francisco Morazán, Olancho, Yoro, Comayagua and El Paraíso.
