TEGUCIGALPA – Personnel and equipment connected with the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-South (SPMAGTF-SC) will begin to arrive in Honduras over the next several weeks. The Marines will support Honduras in the event of a hurricane or another major disaster. While they are deployed in Honduras, the Marines will participate in community service (e.g. construction projects) and training events with their Honduran counterparts in Gracias a Dios.

“This temporary deployment of Marines to Honduras is part of the long-standing relationship between our two countries,” remarked Ambassador Nealon. “This is one of many joint exercises we have scheduled this year, including recently concluded regional firefighter training with Joint Task Force-Bravo and the upcoming arrival of the USNS Comfort,” he continued.

The Marines are expected to remain in Honduras until November and will be stationed with Joint Taskforce-Bravo at Soto Cano Airbase.

Their arrival will come in various stages, via air and also at sea. Hondurans may see C-17 Aircraft, CH-53E Super Stallion Helicopters, additional vehicles on the roadways, and a Spearhead Class Joint High Speed Vessel which will bring heavy equipment, construction materials and U.S. Marines
