TEGUCIGALPA – The Twelfth Air Force (Air Forces Southern), in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy and the Government of Honduras, is currently conducting New Horizons, an annual event that will train military civil engineers and medical professionals to deploy and conduct joint operations.

During the New Horizons exercise, members of the Honduran and United States armed forces will be working side-by-side to construct a school building and a water well in the Colon district. Additionally, U.S. Air Force medical personnel, working with officials from the Honduran Ministry of Health and Trujillo Hospital, will conduct general and orthopedic surgeries throughout the exercise, and a team of U.S. Air Force medical personnel will conduct a mission in Tocoa, focusing on Vector Borne Diseases.

In Tocoa, US Air Force personnel will conduct information exchanges with counterpart Ministry of Health professionals regarding vector borne disease surveillance efforts. This event is the first of a three phase project to partner with the Ministry of Health in their fight to eradicate Malaria in the Colon region.

As part of New Horizons, more than 100 U.S. service members will deploy to Honduras to work side-by-side with Honduran partners.
