On Friday, July 28, 2017, United States Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, met with Attorney General of El Salvador, Douglas Arquímedes Meléndez Ruiz, Attorney General of Guatemala, Thelma Esperanza Aldana Hernández, and Attorney General of Honduras, Oscar Fernando Chinchilla Banegas.
This meeting in El Salvador advances gains from the group’s March meeting in Washington DC, where they discussed efforts to dismantle MS-13, Barrio 18 and other gangs and the fight against other organized crime and corruption.
There has been substantial progress made since March due in large part to these four Attorneys General and the close cooperation, coordination, and information sharing between all four countries.
This most recent meeting was yet another step forward in the ongoing cooperation on joint regional security efforts to fight against the gangs, narcotraffickers, and corruption that threatens the stability of the region and citizens of all our nations.
The United States and the Northern Triangle nations remain committed to working together to increasing citizen security both in Central America and the United States.
