The preliminary reports by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union (EU) described some irregularities in the November 26 election process in Honduras. The OAS report also recommends measures to address concerns expressed by political parties and increase the transparency of the process.
We believe that, if implemented, these measures would provide an effective approach to evaluate the irregularities observed and reach a credible conclusion to the electoral process that reflects the will of the Honduran people. We also urge the Honduran Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to evaluate carefully and impartially any additional complaints presented to it consistent with Honduran law and regulations.
We are pleased that the OAS and EU missions will continue to observe the final stage of the electoral process conducted by the TSE, and believe their sound, independent assessments will be contribute to restoring public trust in the electoral process.
