Security Notice: March of Torches

The U.S. Embassy has information that there are two (2) March of Torches protests happening today, August 28, 2015 beginning at 5:00 PM.  One will start at the Channel 36 Building on Ocotepeque Street, near the Honduras Medical Center and finish at the Casa Presidencial.  The other will start at Plaza Miraflores Mall and end at COHEP Building, about 3 blocks NW of the Marriot Hotel. These Marches will likely disrupt traffic so please use caution while driving in the vicinity of the above areas.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Honduras enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency.  If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Regularly monitor the State Department’s website at Department of State Website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, (including the Travel Warning for Honduras), Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution.  Read the Country Specific Information for Honduras at Country Specific Information.  For additional information, refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” on the State Department’s website.
