Security Alert- U. S. Embassy Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Event: Honduran Primary Elections

On Sunday, March 14, 2021, Honduran primary elections will take place for three major political parties.  The U.S. Embassy currently has no information that necessitates a change in the security situation during or immediately after the primary elections.

However, U.S. citizens are advised to avoid demonstrations or spontaneous gatherings and maintain awareness of their surroundings as even peaceful celebrations may turn violent with little or no notice.  Traffic delays and congestion may occur around or near polling stations.

Actions to Take: 

  • Monitor media coverage of local events and be alert to the possibility of demonstrations and large gatherings.
  • Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gathering, protest, or demonstration.
