Event: Ongoing demonstrations against the Honduran government.
Multiple planned and impromptu demonstrations are likely to continue taking place throughout the country. Any demonstration can turn violent with little or no notice. Due to the potential of violent confrontations between protestors and security forces in Tegucigalpa, the U.S. Embassy has declared the following area of Tegucigalpa to be unsafe for transit and directed all embassy employees and family members to avoid the area until further notice:
- Colonia Kennedy: The area around Instituto Tecnico Honduras from Boulevard Kennedy (not including Blvd. Kennedy) and Primera Entrada of Colonia Kennedy to the Anillo Periferico.
Additionally, embassy employees and family members have been urged to use caution while transiting the following areas:
– Blvd. Supaya in front of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH).
– The exit from Anillo Periferico to Danli
– Blvd. Centroamerica continuing along Blvd. Kennedy
Furthermore, embassy employees and family members should minimize unnecessary travel along the CA-5 between the cities of San Pedro Sula and Puerto Cortes, and the CA-13 between the cities of El Progreso and Trujillo.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area around Instituto Tecnico Honduras from Boulevard Kennedy (not including Blvd. Kennedy) and Primera Entrada of Colonia Kennedy to the Anillo Periferico.
- Use caution on Blvd. Suyapa in front of Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras (UNAH), The exit from Anillo Periferico to Danli, and Blvd. Centroamerica continuing along Blvd. Kennedy.
- Minimize unnecessary travel along the CA-5 between the cities of San Pedro Sula and Puerto Cortes, and the CA-13 between the cities of El Progreso and Trujillo
- Avoid demonstrations.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Monitor local and social media for updates.
- Notify friends and family of your safety.
- Have travel documents up-to-date and easily accessible.
- Report specific safety concerns to local law enforcement authorities.
