Location: Honduras, countrywide
Event: Ongoing demonstrations against the Honduran government.
In light of increasingly violent confrontations between protestors and security forces in Tegucigalpa, the U.S. Embassy has declared two areas of Tegucigalpa to be unsafe for transit and directed all embassy employees and family members to avoid the following areas of Tegucigalpa until further notice:
- Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras (UNAH): Blvd. Suyapa in front of UNAH and the UNAH campus. This area includes Boulevard Suyapa from Calle Trapiche (not including Calle Trapiche) to the Anillo Periferico as well as the UNAH entrances around Villa Olimpica located on the north side of UNAH campus.
- Colonia Kennedy: The area around Instituto Tecnico Honduras from Boulevard Kennedy (not including Blvd. Kennedy) and Primera Entrada of Colonia Kennedy to the Anillo Periferico.
Additionally, embassy employees and family members have been urged to use extreme caution on the Anillo Perifico near Boulevard Suyapa, in/around the Danli exit on the Anillo Perifico, and on Boulevard Centroamerica continuing along Boulevard Kennedy.
The Embassy continues to instruct employees and family members to minimize unnecessary travel across the remainder of mainland Honduras.
The U.S. Embassy remains open as we continue to monitor developments. However, as a result of damage sustained during violence against the embassy on May 31, 2019, the consular section will only be able to provide emergency services for U.S. citizens for this week and through June 28, 2019 and cannot schedule any new appointments for an indefinite period. Any U.S. citizen in need of emergency services should contact USAHonduras@state.gov to make special arrangements.
Actions to Take:
