Remarks by Ambassador Laura F. Dogu on the Donation of 250,380 Doses of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine and 42,000 Dilution Vials

Minister of Health, José Manuel Matheu

PAHO/WHO Representative, Doctor Amalia Ayala

Director of PAI, Doctor María Elena Guevara

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning.  We have all been affected by COVID-19. Our children could not go to school. It became harder to work. And most importantly, we lost friends and family.

I remember the relief I felt when the vaccines became available. I want everyone in Honduras to be able to protect themselves and their families. Since I arrived in Honduras, this is the first time I have participated in a COVID-19 vaccine donation ceremony.

I am sure that I will participate in many more donations that benefit the Honduran people. This new vaccine donation and previous donations from the United States government are a demonstration of the commitment and solidarity of the people of the United States.

We are helping thousands of Hondurans to continue the process of recovery and health protection against the economic and social havoc caused by the pandemic.

Minister Matheu, I am pleased to present this donation of 250,380 doses of Pfizer vaccine and 42,000 dilution vials arriving on three different dates: the fifth, sixth and tenth of May.

These vaccines will contribute to the efforts by you and the team from the Secretary of Health to combat this virus.

On behalf of the government of the United States, we are satisfied to continue to help strengthen the health system and improve the livelihoods of the Honduran people.

Together we are stronger.

Thank you, and good day.
