Remarks Ambassador Laura F. Dogu Resolute Sentinel (RS22) Water Well Donation Ceremony

I am going to share with you a very fascinating fact:

Did you know that 70 percent of planet Earth is water?

And that 60 percent of the human body is water, too?

Furthermore, only 3 percent of the world’s water is fresh.

So, it’s no secret: water is life!

Not just for drinking, but for sanitation, which is a basic necessity.

Governor of Choluteca, Ilce Villatoro,

Mr. Minister of Defense, José Manuel Zelaya,

Commander of the Resolute Sentinel Task Force 2022, Colonel Kirk Stahlbaum,

Special guests,

Media representatives,

Good morning.

In 2020, U.S. Air Force South had contemplated building two water wells in Choluteca.

But the plan was affected by the pandemic.

Now in 2022, the U.S. Southern Command has awarded the donation of approximately $376,000.

With this donation, the dream of approximately 300 families in Orocuina and 100 families in Altos del Guayabo becomes a reality.

It is the same dream that was delayed by the pandemic two years ago.

Now the inhabitants of these communities will have better access to basic services

of water and sanitation.

Local government institutions and the communities themselves were key to the success of this effort.

We are very happy to be able to collaborate and work together with the Government of Honduras.

Our shared noble work is now, and always will be, in favor of Honduran citizens.

Thank you very much.
