Remarks for Ambassador Dogu, American School of Tegucigalpa Graduation Ceremony 2023

Great Seal of the United States

Happy graduation day, Eagles! I’m Laura Dogu, the U.S. Ambassador here in Honduras. I am thrilled to join the class of 2023 for this important day! Congratulations to all the graduates and your families. You did it!!!

For over five decades, AST and the Embassy have had an enduring and strong relationship, full of traditions. And part of that tradition is the presentation of the Ambassador’s Medal. This medal is awarded to the AST senior who has most distinguished him or herself as an AST Eagle Ambassador.

To receive the medal, you need: 1) a cumulative GPA of 92.5 percent or above since the 9th grade; 2) to be active in school outreach programs, serving others with commitment and passion; 3) to lead outreach efforts in the local community on behalf of AST; 4) to demonstrate outstanding behavior inside and outside the classroom, and excellent rapport with students, teachers and administrators; and 5) to always go above and beyond the expectations set in your classroom and extracurricular activities.

I am happy to announce the name of the AST Eagle selected by a special council of administrators, counselors, and staff to receive the Ambassador’s Medal this year. But before I break the suspense, I’ll tell you a little about this person. Let’s see if you can guess who it is!

This year’s medal recipient has represented AST in service to the community, while excelling in every way. This student is known to be strong and determined, but also humble, and is relentless in serving the community, both locally and internationally. This student has a cumulative GPA of 97 percent since the 9th grade. The student impressed teachers, advisers, and coaches with a relentless drive, intellectual curiosity, and cordial personality. The student supported philanthropic organizations like Bencaleth, Voces de Esperanza, Operation Smile, and Escuelas Apoyando Escuelas. This student has earned an IB diploma and is a member of the National Arts Honor Society.

This student is a tennis player, a reader, and a fan of learning French but also likes to watch Formula One race cars. And finally, this student will pursue a major in Mechanical Engineering at Concordia University in Canada.

Have you figured out who is receiving The Ambassador’s Medal? Please, everyone: stand up, and join me in congratulating as I welcome to the stage… Miss Ana Lucia Caceres! She is this year’s AST Eagle winner of the Ambassador’s Medal. Ana Lu, I speak on behalf of my entire team at the embassy when I say that we could not be more proud of you.
