Message for U.S. Citizens – Extended Deadline for Ballot Collection (now October 15, 2020)

Receiving Your Ballot: Some states allow you to receive your ballot by email or fax while others do not.  Please visit https://www.fvap.gov/covid-19 to view a graphic showing which states allow voting by fax or email.  If your state requires you to receive paper voting forms or ballots from local election officials by mail, you can do so through private courier service in Honduras.

Returning Your Completed, Signed Ballot: Some states allow you to return your completed ballot electronically and others do not.  If your state requires you to return paper voting forms or ballots to local election officials by mail, you can do so via Embassy drop off (see more information below) or private courier service.  If you wish to drop off your ballot, or have a friend or colleague drop it off for you, place it in either a U.S. postage-paid envelope (provided with the ballot) or an envelope bearing domestic U.S. postage addressed to your local election officials. Submitted ballots must be sealed.

Postage-paid envelopes are available on fvap.gov at https://www.fvap.gov/eo/overview/materials/forms.  Please download the Ballot Return and FWAB postage-paid envelope and place over a physical envelope. Please also fill in the To and From sections on the envelope.  Most states also require the actual ballot to be placed in another envelope, please follow your state specific instructions.  Consider using the Ballot Return and FWAB Security Envelope for this purpose.

Ballot drop off at the U.S. Embassy: U.S. citizens who want to mail their ballots to the United States should drop their ballots off at the Embassy entrance located on Avenida República de México in Tegucigalpa, Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Facial masks are required.

U.S. citizens will also be required to fill out a sign-in sheet with name, passport number, and state of record for voting purposes.

If you are outside Tegucigalpa, please send your ballot to the Embassy at the following address by use of a private courier with door-to-door service:

Embajada de Estados Unidos-Tegucigalpa
Avenida La Paz
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Atención: ACS/Consulado

Please deliver your ballot by October 15, 2020, after which time you will need to use a private courier to guarantee on-time delivery.

All ballots will be postmarked before they are mailed to the United States, which is usually the same date the ballot is received at the Embassy.

Never received your ballot?  If you registered to vote and requested an absentee ballot prior to your state’s registration deadline, but have not yet received your ballot, complete and return a Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot to ensure your vote reaches election officials by your state’s deadline.  Return it by mail, email, or fax depending on what your state allows.  If your regular ballot arrives later, complete and return it as well.  Your Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot will only be counted if your regular ballot does not reach local election officials by your state’s deadline.  Your vote will not be counted twice.

For more information about how to register to vote, request your absentee ballot, and key deadlines for your particular state, please email us at votetegucigalpa@state.gov to receive a Power Point with step-by-step instructions.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact usahonduras@state.gov or votetegucigalpa@state.gov.

Remember, your vote counts!
