General Richardson to Meet with President Castro, Defense Leaders during Visit to Honduras

TEGUCIGALPA – U.S. Army General Laura Richardson, the commander of U.S. Southern Command, will visit Honduras on July 27-28 to meet with Honduran President Xiomara Castro and other senior defense officials to discuss continued bilateral cooperation.

The U.S. is committed to remain Honduras’ primary security partner as the two countries share a close and longstanding defense partnership, united by diplomatic, historic, and cultural ties.

The Honduran Armed Forces are crucial partners in the fight against transnational criminal organizations and illicit trafficking.  For decades, U.S. and Honduran military forces have worked and trained together during numerous training exercises and engagements.

Honduras also hosts the U.S. military’s Joint Task Force-Bravo, located at Soto Cano Air Base. The task force supports  training and humanitarian/disaster relief efforts both in Honduras and in the region.
