The American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa provides a wide range of services to U.S. citizens residing in or visiting Honduras. These include both emergency services such as replacement of a stolen passport or disaster assistance, and non-emergency services such as notaries and issuance of reports of birth abroad. The Embassy’s Consular Agency provides citizens in the San Pedro Sula area with specific non-emergency services. The ACS Unit can also provide information on absentee voting and Selective Service registration. The Embassy maintains a list of registered lawyers and private security firms in the local area.
The ACS Unit performs outreach to the U.S. community, which consists of approximately 50,000 people at any given time, via Town Hall meetings throughout the year in various locations. ACS has a Facebook page which citizens can be a ‘fan’ of to stay up-to-date on events, natural disasters, and other circumstances in Honduras which may impact or interest U.S. citizens. Those visiting or living in Honduras are also encouraged to register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at https://travelregistration.state.gov. Citizens registered with the Embassy via STEP will receive Travel Alerts or Warnings addressed to U.S. citizens via email.
