Demonstration Alert: Planned protest

Location: Honduras

Event:  A planned protest is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 29th in Tegucigalpa. The U.S. Embassy has advised employees to avoid the planned protest routes which could include Casa Presidencial, Boulevard Morazan, and the Congress. U.S. Embassy personnel have been authorized an early release on August 29th to avoid an expected increase in traffic during their evening commute. U.S. citizens are advised to monitor local media and are reminded to avoid any demonstration, as even peaceful ones can turn violent with little or no notice. U.S. citizens in Honduras are reminded to maintain awareness of their surroundings as the situation may change quickly.  Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
