WASHINGTON, DC – Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier will travel to Honduras and El Salvador April 21 through April 23 to urge the governments of those countries to do more to prevent illegal immigration to the United States and to promote regional prosperity, security, and governance.
On April 21, Assistant Secretary Breier will travel to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to meet with President Juan Orlando Hernandez, First Lady Ana Garcia de Hernandez, and members of the Honduran Migration Task Force. The Assistant Secretary will discuss the importance of strengthening independent institutions that combat corruption and impunity with both the Honduran administration and with the Organization of American States’ Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH). Corruption contributes to driving immigration by undermining prosperity, security, and governance throughout the region.
