Ambassador Dogu’s Remarks Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2023 Program Inauguration

Let the AWE women who are ready make some noise!

Today, they embark on their journey in the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) 2023 program.

We know that running a business is not easy, and it’s especially challenging for women. In 2019, Nayely Moreno from Santa Cruz de Yojoa had a cacao farm and was producing chocolate. However, she couldn’t reach new markets due to lack of quality, marketing knowledge, and access to financing.

Today, Yojoa Chocolate products are sold in both the domestic and international markets. They have also received international awards for their high quality. Additionally, Nayely has created more than 10 new jobs for women in her community.

The best part of this story is that Nayely is not alone. There are 782 more AWE participants who have created 515 jobs for fellow Hondurans in their communities.

But in addition to the tools and impact that the AWE program has had on them, these women share a common trait: persistence!

Open your minds to the knowledge that AWE will provide, put that knowledge into practice, never give up, and keep trying again and again. These are virtues that will enable you to make the most of the program. And you won’t be alone on your AWE journey! You have the dedication of the facilitators in each city.

You also have that great community of sisters, your fellow AWE participants, and graduates from previous years. And of course, you have our support and the support of UTH.

Thanks to these successes, AWE in Honduras continues to grow. This year, women entrepreneurs in Gracias are participating for the first time. And we are reopening the program in Choluteca, Juticalpa, La Ceiba, La Esperanza, Puerto Cortés, San Pedro Sula, and Tegucigalpa.

We are also launching AWE Plus, a pilot incubation program to boost the businesses of 100 former AWE recipients.

I’m thrilled to see all you entrepreneurial women embarking on this journey!

AWE will prepare you to overcome the challenges of running a business. It is also an opportunity for personal growth and building the necessary networks to achieve your goals. This brings economic equality for Honduran women.

Thank you to Licenciada Annamaria Villeda of Televicentro and Emisoras Unidas for promoting AWE 2023 and reaching over 1,200 applicants.Thank you, UTH, for being our partner.

To the participants, good luck on your journey.

Through AWE, Honduran women will continue to lead, innovate, and grow their businesses.

Thank you.
